Breaking down language barriers between European, U.S. lawyers
John DeBruyn reports on the innovative work he is doing, with the help of German lawyer Rainer Langenhan and others, to build a bridge between European lawyers and U.S. lawyers who participate in the Network-Lawyers discussion group. Visiting Langenhan's German-language blawg, Handakte WebLAWg, DeBruyn found a link to the German legal wiki JuraWiki. He then created an English-language page at JuraWiki about the Network-Lawyers discussion group. And to help English-speaking lawyers navigate the JuraWiki site, he used the Google translation tool to build an English-language tour of JuraWiki.

Medill site offers journalist's view of Supreme Court
On the Docket, a project of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, offers a journalist's perspective on the Supreme Court. The site lists pending and prior-term cases, with a story on each case, additional feature stories on selected cases, links to Web sites relevant to the cases, information provided by attorneys and parties in the cases, the dates for scheduled oral arguments, the questions presented to the court, names of the attorneys in the cases, and citations for the lower court opinions. Coverage dates back to the 1998-99 term. On the Docket is edited by Jack C. Doppelt, an associate professor and director of Medill's Global Journalism program, and a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School.

Site details new model rules on corporate responsibility
In response to a series of corporate scandals in recent years, the American Bar Association House of Delegates yesterday adopted new lawyer conduct rules based on three proposals submitted by the ABA Task Force on Corporate Responsibility.

The first amended Rule 1.6 of the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct to permit a lawyer to reveal confidential client information if the client is using the lawyer's services to commit a crime or fraud that would cause financial harm to others. The second amended Rule 1.13 to permit a lawyer representing an organizational client to report up the corporate ladder violations by corporate officers of laws or legal duties that would harm the organization. The third endorsed structural and procedural reforms to improve corporate governance.

Lawyers looking for more background on these changes should visit the Web site of the Task Force on Corporate Responsibility. It includes the task force's complete report, as well as details on each of the recommendations: Rule 1.13, Rule 1.6(b), and corporate governance.

A companion site serves as a clearinghouse of ABA activities dealing with corporate responsibility issues, including programs, projects, articles, reports and publications.
