As a lawyer/writer myself, I was intrigued by the title of a blog launched in January, the lawyer writer. It is the blog of Neeraja Viswanathan, a self-described attorney-turned-writer in New York City whose book, The Street Law Handbook: Surviving Sex, Drugs, and Petty Crime, was published in November by Bloomsbury Publishing. Suspecting that she is not alone in leaving law to pursue writing — or at least in the desire to do so — Viswanathan makes this her theme, “writing about my oddball career choices.”

This is a blog about life, not law. As she explains it:

“I’ve noticed that for a blog called ‘the lawyer writer’ there’s actually very little law involved. There is writing, though I worry that most of these posts are actually about the ridiculousness that is my life. I don’t know if that is a good idea, as it feels a little self-indulgent and I worry that it isn’t that interesting to … well, anyone.”

For some reason, it is. Interesting.
